If you are from my era, you would remember the Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) series that were filled with mysteries where you can be involved in the outcome. When browsing through the library for books to read during silent reading in primary school, I came across these nostalgic books and was excited to let my then 7- or 8-year old read them. However, those had tiny words, were quite lengthy without pictures, and some of them had themes that were a little scary.

I Googled and found simplified versions of CYOA books! While they can still be a little wordy, I would say they are quite suitable for lower and middle primary children and the themes are definitely age-appropriate. There are themes are would interest the boys (e.g. robots and dragons) and themes that will delight the girls (e.g. princess and fairies). While these cannot be found in the public libraries, they can be found at my favourite Book Depository for about $15 to $20 depending on the title. Since there are different possible endings, these books can entertain your child for a longer period of time!
